CDSCL
is a registered non-profit charitable organization that
provides support and services for individuals with
disabilities in the Creston Valley under four programs,
with an emphasis on community inclusion.
CDSCL has received full accreditation for
three consecutive three-year cycles as a community
social service provider under CARF (Commission on
Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) for its
programs and services. CDSCL
also operates a Therapeutic Riding Program and
low-income housing for seniors.
Community Housing
CDSCL owns five homes in which fifteen individuals
with developmental and/or physical disabilities receive
24-hour support and five individuals receive partial
staffing support. Two of
these homes receive some funding from BC Housing and are
completely wheelchair accessible. Three
of these homes are licensed under the Community Care and
Assisted Living Act and Regulations as Specialized
Residential Care Homes. CDSCL
employees provide daily care, training in life skills
and assistance with community access at these homes.
Supported Living
CDSCL also supports individuals with developmental
disabilities who live in apartments in the Creston
community. The level of
care provided is relative to the individuals’
capabilities and skills and includes training in Daily
Living Skills and personal care. Most
of these individuals attend the various Day Programs
available in the community and access community
resources.
Personal Supports
CDSCL provides additional supports to individuals who
are living in a Shared Living situation in a caregiver’s
home. These involve
daily living supports and community access.
Community Integration
CDSCL operates several Day Programs out of two
locations in Creston. Please
visit the
Day
Programs section for more information.
Employees
CDSCL employs approximately sixty-five employees who are members of CUPE
Local 4775 and who are fully trained to provide quality care to the
individuals supported by CDSCL. These
employees include maintenance and supervisory staff. There are currently
four administrative regular employees.
Volunteers
Volunteers play a key role in providing vital services to individuals
with disabilities. Volunteers are especially important to the
Therapeutic Riding and
Day Programs.
Placements
Individuals for Community Housing, Supported Living and Community
Integration Programs are referred for services provided by CDSCL by
Community Living BC, which provides the majority of the funding for the
Society. Individuals and their families
can also apply directly to CDSCL.
Management
CDSCL is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. All programs are
overseen by the Executive Director. The Leadership Team for core
programs consists of the Executive Director and four program
Coordinators. How to Reach Us
